Healing After Trauma

Trauma can leave lasting marks — not just in memory, but in the body, emotions, and relationships. You might feel on edge, disconnected, numb, or flooded with feelings you can’t switch off. At times, the past may feel like it’s still happening now.

These are natural responses to overwhelming experiences. They’re your body and nervous system’s way of trying to protect you, even long after the danger has passed.

The Impact of Trauma

Trauma can affect how you feel, think, and relate to others. It may show up as anxiety, nightmares, mood swings, or difficulty trusting people. It can affect sleep, concentration, and physical health. Some people find themselves avoiding reminders of what happened, while others feel hyperalert and unable to relax.

Trauma also affects relationships. It can make parenting under pressure harder, stir feelings of grief or shame, or create distance when what you long for is closeness.

Therapy offers a space to gently process these experiences, regain a sense of safety, and reconnect with yourself and others. With the right support, it becomes possible to loosen trauma’s hold and move toward healing.
